Equipment

There are a number of wildlife and action focused options currently available, all with their advantages and disadvantages. For wildlife, it is important to have comfortable, weather proof, portable equipment with fast continuous shooting rates and subject detection auto focus.

I chose OM Systems/Olympus equipment because they offer affordable, action focused equipment. OM Systems equipment are widely considered to have the best image stabilisation technology and weather proofing - superior to any of the ‘big three’ manufacturers (Canon, Nikon and Sony)

Due to the Micro 4/3’rds sensor, OM Systems generally create equipment that is incredibly light and portable. I can fit a camera body, a landscape lens, macro lens and a telephoto lens into a 35L backpack. This suits my general hatred of using tripods - and my enjoyment of walking and hiking in order to find wildlife.

Full Frame equipment will offer more megapixels, slightly better image quality and the ability to crop your photos more in post processing - but usually the drawback is that it will be heavier, less compact and more expensive.
